Before being elected to Congress, Mike McMahon was an attorney with O'Leary, McMahon and Spero in New York. He also served on the New York City Council for seven years. He chaired the Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management and passed a law requiring the Department of Health to provide at least one nurse in every school with more than 200 students.
