Michael Honda served on the San Jose Unified School Board in 1981 and then the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in 1990. He served in the California State Assembly from 1996-2000 prior to being elected into Congress. In 2001 Honda was elected into Congress and continues to serve today. While in Congress he has been a leading advocate in favor of educational policies that would make American students more competitive in critical areas such as science, technology, engineering and math.
