
After graduating from Miami University in Ohio, Maria Cantwell worked on the Alan Cranston's campaign for the Democratic nomination for president in 1983, which was ultimately unsuccessful. She was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives when she was 28 years old. In 1992, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives for one term before being defeated in her reelection. Cantwell then moved to the private sector to work for RealNetworks, an internet media company, where she became a multi-millionaire. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000 and is currently serving her second term. Official Biography
