John Thune received his bachelor's degree from Biola University and his MBA at the University of South Dakota. He first moved to Washington, D.C. to work for U.S. Senator Jim Abdnor and later was appointed by President Ronald Raegan to work for the Small Business Administration. Upon moving back to South Dakota he was named State Railroad Director and then Executive Director of the South Dakota Municipal League. In 1996 he won election to the U.S. House of Representatives, and in 2004 he won election to the U.S. Senate.  Official Biography
